What is it?
Xolair is an injectable prescription medicine used to treat moderate to severe persistent allergic asthma, as well as patients with chronic idiopathic urticaria. Allergy staff is trained to provide such injections. Injections are given every two to four weeks depending on the patient’s needs.
Who should get Xolair?
Xolair is for patients 12 years of age and older who suffer from allergic asthma uncontrolled by an inhaler alone. Patients suffering from chronic hives, or those lasting more than six weeks
Uncontrolled asthma is asthma that matches the following guidelines:
- Two or more attacks a year that require oral steroids
- Awakening at night more than once a week as a result of symptoms
- Wheezing, chest tightness, a cough, or feeling out of breath two or more days a week
